George Foreman vs Muhammad Ali, Zaire, Sept. 24, 1974 Boxing Fight Ticket, the "Rumble in the Jungle"

Original ticket for the Sept. 24, 1974 Theatre Telecast at the Washington Avenue Armory, Albany, N.Y. featuring George Foreman vs. Muhammad Ali which was to be held in Zaire (the historic “Rumble in the Jungle”.)
The fight was postponed until October 30 from its original scheduled date of September 25 (which would be September 24 at 9:30 PM in the U.S. as shown on the ticket) because Foremen suffered an injury during training in Zaire and needed time to recover. Ali reclaimed the World Heavyweight title with a knockout of Foreman in the eighth round.

19th Century Reading, PA Dentist Advertising Broadside

 

A large & rare dentist advertisement 9 1/8” long by 5 7/8” wide paper handout flyer. The flyer advertises the services of Dr. H. L. Johnson of 35 S. 6th St., Reading. Pa. The flyer begins with the heading “No Pain With Gas The Terrors of the Dental Chair Disarmed!” Shown is the scene of the interior of a dental office where the dentist has given gas to a patient who seems to relax content in the dental chair.

The flyer shows many bends, wrinkles, & creases. There are a few tiny pinpoint size spots worn through at the folds. These are minor & do not readily show up until the flyer is held up to the light. We do not know when this dentist was in business in Reading. But, we are estimating that this flyer dates circa 1890’s or so.

U.S. Scott 634d Pair Bisect Stamps on Cover W/APEX Certificate

This is a very interesting pair from Scott No. 634d booklet pane with a bisect tied to cover. The cancellation is from “Feb.13 A.M. 1937 MD.” We are not sure what the town name is at the top of the cancellation. But, the town name starts with either “C” or “G” followed by “RA” & it ends with “M”.

We submitted this cover, which we inherited from a relative, to APS for authentication in 2009. APEX authentication certificate No.189079 dated 9/17/2009 is included with the cover. The certificate states as follows: “United States, used pair from Scott No. 634d booklet pane, on a tolerated but illegal use of a bisect.”

The cover has some minor browning at the corners from early triangular mounts. There is a line of toning at the left front edge. The back has two tiny scuffs & two tiny specks of black paper residue from having been in an album. The cover measures 6” long by 3 1/2” wide. The image on the right shows the condition of this scarce cover.
